HOW CAN WE PAY FOR OUR CHILDS COLLEGE EDUCATION WHEN WE LIVE CHECK TO CHECK?

Our kid is in assemblage college this tumble at a state school. FASBA says she does not validate for grants due to the income, however, we flattering most live check to check. The propagandize says the approaching family grant exceeds the estimated price of attendance. Est price $18,850 Expected Fam Cont $20,255 for a sum need of $-1405.00. Thus far we have no success anticipating grants or scholarships. This is the initial kid and do not know what to do. The propagandize additionally pronounced the kid could usually validate for a $2500 loan the initial year and we’re obliged for the rest. Any recommendation would be appreciated. Thank you all.

rob a bank! don’t send them to college.
actually, i go to college, i’m about to graduate, and i didn’t take any money from my parents, maybe about $4000 total through the whole 3 years. i just lived with them, so i didn’t have to pay for housing or food, i work full time, school full time, all i pay is books, school and gas. they help me with car insurance and emergencies, and yes we live paycheck to paycheck too!

Well, i guess your child won’t be going then.

You could always take out a loan, but the fact you say you live check to check, it might not be wise at all.

well I am paying my own way threw school mostly by working full time when I am going and then getting student loans to help fill in the gaps.

try http://www.findaid.com, also there are many private scholarships most of them are given on academic bases, for some of them u need to write an essay and fill out an application; it takes time, but it’s worth it. also there are work-study programs available through the school; and if nothing else works out ur child should consider going to a cheaper school or taking out a loan from the bank(not including the school one)

good luck

I am not sure what state you are in. IN WV our daughter will get the promise scholarship, she got some scholarships and grant money, etc…

An in State College will be cheaper of course. Look at another College, try to find a cheaper one now. Check out many.

And go talk to ppl at the Colleges, ask what they offer. Tell them the situation. I do not know if They will allow exceptions, can’t hurt to see.

Your child may have to do a work study program too. There are loans you can get too but you will be responsible for those. I am sure this varies from state to state.

But our daughter is in 12th Grade, goes to school half a day and works, sometimes full time. She starts College in the Fall. Your child may need to get an after school job to save and a full time job to save this Summer.

But don’t give up there are lots of options. Also if they were going to live on campus, living at home would be cheaper and going to a near by College if possible. There are cheaper Colleges.

Things will still be hard on us as we owe so many medical bills. And our daughter will need a better vehicle. So she will probably take out the loan. And we have another teen that will be going we take care of that will get less money.

I know it is hard not to worry. But take it one day at a time and find out all your options!!! I have made many phone calls!!!

They told my family the same thing. So I went to school in Canada instead. Its cheaper and the quality of public education is higher than most places in the US.

Or you can have your kid pay their way through. Its best to stay away from loans. If you need to have the kid take out a student loan – one that has no intrest untill they graduate. Maybe they can go to school part time untill they save up more for full time? Or pick a cheaper institution.

Don’t give up on it! As thats one way to get out of the month to month check issue attend college… do keep looking for ways around it! Good luck.

Why aren’t you finding scholarships? Were your child’s grades poor or average? Sorry to hear of your dilemma. The only option, provided you don’t find any private scholarships, would be the old student loan thing. They give ‘em to just about anybody. But of course, they need to be paid back. Keep in mind that some professions get loans forgiven, so it would depend on what your kid wants to be (e.g. teachers get a lot of loan help, as do, for example, crim. justice majors who go into that profession). Seek out any groups with which you’re affilited with to find scholarships, too, not just public ones. My father’s job’s professional organization paid for all 4 years of my tuition as a scholar. You had to maintain the GPA, but that’s what college is about. Everytime they raised tuition, they matched it with the scholarship money. Good luck.

Mommy and Daddy I know you love your child..But you have to push them out of the nest somtime…How about now! Thousands of studants work their way thru college. Your can too.!

You have a couple of options.
1. Put her to work.
2.Find a cheaper school.
3. Sell some of your toys. Any cars you don’t drive or camping trailer (if you have one) any 4 wheelers ?
4.maybe take out a 2nd mortgage on your house..
you caould also sell your blood plasma..

good luck

start reseaching scholarships. do searches on where you live, employers, hobbies, ethnic heritage, etc. There are tons of scholarships out there, you just have to start digging. And a mistake too many people make is to look at some of them and say “it’s only $400, let’s not bother”. Well, get a few $400 and $500 scholarships under your belt and they really start to add up. Apply for anything and everything that is a close match. Go to the library or research online for scholarship opportunities.

Good luck!

Your child could file for an economic hardship in their FA office. They will take your financial situation into consideration and then hopefully reduce the EFC.

I WORK FOR A STUDENT LOAN COMPANY IN TEXAS, AND IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL AID, SCHOLARSHIPS, OR GRANTS YOU CAN APPLY FOR A PARENT PLUS LOAN THROUGH YOUR SCHOOLS FINANCIAL AID OFFICE, AND IF YOU DON’T QUALIFY THEN YOUR STUDENT WILL THEN BE ABLE TO QUALIFY FOR A STUDENT LOAN…GOOD LUCK
