Bunch of cry babies on this page. Live below your means so you can borrow as little as you can, or join the armed forces and get your educational benefits. There are always solutions but most people love to bask in negativity, which gets you nowhere.

I find it sad that the Government has all these regulations with your money, but never once are you forced to learn about it in your pre-college education. Instead they want you to know about Metamorphosis and y=mx+b.

YOLO

Yuuuup. I had to take out $5,500 more per year in loans because I used to get what was called a SMART grant- for people who are super poor and eligible for epll grants who study science and math. Of course, as part of the lovely budget cut plan, the governor decided that super poor kids from the bad side of town studying science and math were clearly tipping the budget, so they axed that shit. Thanks to that I took out $13,000 more than I would have had to… :( Corrupt? yup.

I WAS on zoloft paying this back, it didn’t work and I was witched to stronger stuff. Now the cost of the medication is just making me more in debt. The cycle, it never endsssss.

Despite all the hate on student loans, this video is pretty clear and helpful for someone who doesn’t understand the repayment process. But a walk-through of the damn financial aid site would be better.

The site isn’t exactly intuitive, and though I’ve dealt with worse, it still takes me thirty minutes to find the section I’m looking for.

Grant > Loan when possible.

DoBrigh August 18, 2013 at 10:10 am

i think you forgot the part where hedge funds and bailed-out investment banks (funny how they didnt have to repay their debt in the crash of 2008, and how Dick Fuld lives in a mansion still) slice up your student loan into thousands of pieces and resell it to ‘investors’ including the chinese and russian governments.

nor do you address that student debt is like the subprime mortgage system in 2000-2007, mssively corrupt, unregulated, and full of conflicted interests and criminal enterprises.

Lets get to what its really all about, they’re trying to maintain militaristic dominance over the earth which takes MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY and RESOURCES, our government still believes and practices this old world notion that military is the only way to dominate the world, well thats not the case now, we need a thriving economy to do that and china is right at our heels the only thing holding china back is that America is China’s economic stability with out us their economy crumbles too.

If you inherit anything from a deceased love one they’ll take that too!

yeah I agree, paying off $30,000-$100,000 or more in debt on a minimum wage job is just not going to happen im sorry its just not. I just came out of highschool c/o 2012 I’m age 19 now and got my first job with NO experience at all making $10 an hour and Im debt free, have no kids, and have savings saved up in the bank, Im WAY better off than most college grads

To anyone who takes student loans this is what awaits you.

Thanks Congress for looking out for us students while you sit there letting the interest rate double on July, 1!

newstribue August 18, 2013 at 1:45 pm

This is going to be worse than the real estate bubble

Bekki T August 18, 2013 at 2:04 pm

Higher Ed is a corporation that accepts federal funds from the next generations…the next financial bubble than will cripple students into a debt that will be as close to impossible as anything can become to being repaid. It’s a degree in debt.
